Boulder offers a great selection of hiking trails! I have listed some classics. I would give a few others honorable mentions: Gregory Canyon Trail, Walker Ranch, & South Boulder Creek Trail. Here are the top 5 Boulder trails for families:
Trail | Location | Description | Comments |
Bobolink Trail | Cherryvale & Baseline Rd. | This flat trail meanders along a low creek where in warm weather kids can wade. There is tree coverage and open areas. Many times there are cows grazing. | This is one of our family’s all-time favorite hikes for families with kids of all ages. |

Boulder Valley Ranch Trail | 1 mile North of Boulder on Hwy 36 | The relatively flat trail loops around a lake. You see cows at times and walk past a real working preserved ranch. | There is a lot of diversity and heritage. Also the lake is a great incentive for little ones to keep going! |
Chautauqua Park and Trail | Baseline and 9th Street. See link for specifics. | There are many trails that leave from Chautauqua. The variety is great! | Check out the park below the restaurant if your little one is tired of hiking. |
McClintock and Enchanted Mesa Trail | Chautauqua Park | The hike leaves from behind the restaurant and heads along a drainage. | These are classic Boulder hikes that anyone can access. |
