  • Lap Babies at the Main Boulder Library. Babies (birth-12 months) and their caregivers explore language and books in a fun and intimate setting. Programs include rhymes, songs and books as well as time for free play and informal discussion of early childhood development. Attendance limited to babies up to 12 months of age; no older children please.
  • Read to the Dog at the Meadows Branch Library. Whether your child needs to practice reading or not they all love reading to the sweet dogs at the library! Practice your reading by reading aloud to one of our calm and certified therapy dogs. They love to be read to and they never criticize! Parents must sign up ahead of time. Call Pam at 303-441-4390 to reserve space.

  • Nature For Kids & Parents: Coyote Tales.  A chorus of yaps, whines, barks and howls: these musical sounds can be heard at any time of the day or year.  Hike in coyote country with Debora Martin, Early Childhood Educator/Volunteer Naturalist to hunt, howl and learn why coyotes can adapt to just about any region of North America!  Meet at the Lehigh street entrance to Shanahan Ridge (map search1903 Lehigh Street in Boulder, where Lehigh and Lafayette Streets Intersect) for a hike on Shanahan Ridge Trail. Ages 5 and up. 1:00 to 2:30pm.
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde presented by Theater Hikes Colorado at Chautauqua. This is a unique opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors, hiking and theater! It is appropriate for children 8 and up. Buy tickets ahead of time here. Starts at Noon.
  • Go Club for Kids & Teens. Learn to play the ancient and mysterious board game known as Go. Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5 and up.

  • Mapleton Hill PorchFest has some kid friendly musical acts! Check out Basho & Friends. They will be playing a free children’s music show this Sunday, September 22nd at the Mapleton Hill PorchFest from 2:30-4pm near the corner of 5th and Mapleton St. Their music is ridiculously fun and he’ll probably sing some classic kid’s songs as well as originals in English and Spanish.

  • Flick N Float. Check out the movie, “E.T” in the pool at Scott Carpenter Pool. Family open swim will begin at 7 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.). $5/person or $20/family of 5.
  • Boulder Outdoor Cinema presents Monte Python [Holy Grail]. Find this fun outdoor theater experience happening in the parking lot behind the Tea House just off of 13th street. Gates open at 7pm, a band starts at 7:30pm and the movie starts at dusk. This is a fun, family-friendly Boulder event.

Children ages 10 and under (and accompanying adults) will chug along the beautiful Pearl Street Mall on the only set of wheels permitted “on the bricks”! Board from 10 – 11:15 am in front of Wells Frago Bank at the corner of 12th and Pearl Street. Admission is FREE!

  • Back to School Family Fun Ride with Community Cycles. This ride is designed to welcome the ten-and-under set. We’ll ride on paved off-street paths to Scott Carpenter Park, where we’ll break for snacks (bring your own) and playground time. Older and more experienced kids may add a journey along off-street paths to Martin Park. Meet at 9:00 to 10:30am at Community Cycles. Trailers and tag-a-longs encouraged!
  • Boulder Outdoor Cinema presents Tombstone. Find this fun outdoor theater experience happening in the parking lot behind the Tea House just off of 13th street. Gates open at 7pm, a band starts at 7:30pm and the movie starts at dusk. This is a fun, family-friendly Boulder event.
  • Boulder Public Library Children’s Book Sale. Come browse hundreds of children’s books, including picture books, chapter books, easy readers, and nonfiction. Take home some gems, or find some great books for your classroom!
    Books are 25 cents each or 5 for a dollar. Main library. All day.
  • 14th Annual Lafayette Peach Festival. Food, kids activities, and of course plenty of peaches. More information here. 9:00am to 4:00pm.

  • Junior Rangers Adventures–Hop, Jump & Hike on Patrol with the Rangers. Rangers patrol the parks every day. Sometimes unexpected obstacles like rocks, logs, river crossings and even wild animals make park patrol difficult. Go on patrol with the rangers and complete a natural obstacle course. Meet at Bald Mountain Open Space. 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Library Summer Festival. Join the Boulder Public Library for our Summer Reading Program celebration–with an afternoon of music–featuring Pick Up Sticks Marimba, magic–with Erica Sodos, games, and fun activities on the Library Plaza Lawn in front of the Canyon Gallery entrance. 2:00 to 5:00pm.

  • Salida Circus: Digging Into Books! Colorado’s favorite circus sisters will be digging to books and need your help! On a search to find the “moral of the story,” the Scarlets meet Curious George, Runaway Bunny, Babar the Elephant, Frog and Toad, and other classic storybook characters! With circus acts, songs, and lots of audience participation, Salida Circus makes “Digging into Books!” 50 minutes of educational circus fun for everyone. George Reynolds Branch Library @ 11:00am.   • Strong Kids Triathlon with the YMCA of Boulder Valley. Children are able to experience an introduction to the sport of triathlon in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment…and make great memories at the Y! Children will race in heats determined by age groups. Each heat will cater to the skill level of the child and will include lap(s) in the pool, lap(s) on tricycles or bicycles and finish with lap(s) around the turf field. Each child will go home with a medal, t-shirt and a great memory. 9:00am at the Arapahoe Y. You need to pre-register.
  • Boulder Farmer’s Market. Meet your farmers, do some artwork, get some lunch. There is always so much going on at the market! 8:00am to 2:00pm.

  • Magicians of the Mountain ParksA nature magic show for the whole family! Take an exciting glimpse into the spectacular lives of the wild ones. Professional Magician Paul Norton and Naturalist Lynne Sullivan will reveal the amazing survival strategies of the plants and animals we see here in the mountains surrounding Boulder. Head up to the Flagstaff Summit Amphitheater for this stationary nature magic show. 5 years of age and up. 9:30am to 10:30am.
  • Junior Ranger Adventures: Emergency Shelter Building. Rangers know that fast moving storms can hit at any time in Colorado. Being caught in lightning, rain, snow or wind is a dangerous situation. Building an emergency shelter is a survival skill that all rangers must know how to do. Learn how to build an emergency shelter so that you can stay dry, warm and safe. This event is part of the Junior Ranger Adventures Summer Challenge, a program for kids, ages 6-13. Meet at Heil Ranch from 10:00am to Noon. http://www.bouldercountyopenspace.org/jr
